Prayers taken from the visitor's book at Charterhouse, EC1 in London.
Composed only with sounds recorded in the chapel and cloister and my own voice. The acoustics of Charterhouse's space applied to the work with the help of Arup Architects, so you are really hearing the piece as it would sound were I to perform it for you in there. I have kept the vocals raw as there should be that immediacy to match the words; the fragile nature of hope.
The full track is only now available (Jan 2022), on Bandcamp.

For the Musicity and Culture Mile Barbican cassette and app release, I selected Charterhouse Almshouse, along the Culture Mile, in the Barbican region of London.
"Using sounds recorded in the famous almshouse as instrumentation, and entirely digitally unpitched tracks of Fari's wide and lush vocal range, the impressive lyrics come from the Charterhouse's public prayer request book, which Fari found lying open in the space."
Only open to the public in 2017, the Charterhouse has been a thriving almshouse and a stunning seven- acre site embracing seven centuries of remarkable lives. Originally founded in 1348 during the Black Death as a burial site, the city Charterhouse is brimming with extraordinary stories of contemplation, conspiracy and charity.
The lyrics, taken from the public prayer book, are filled with different requests for prayers in the chapel, from visitors of all ages and backgrounds. Prayers for sick animals to oppressed peoples, the prayer book was a stunningly moving example of humanity at its finest.
